Housed in the historic Dayton School, Dayton Learning Center is the Alternative Education Program and is part of the Rockingham County School System. Our mission is to enable students from the four high schools and four middle schools in Rockingham County to achieve academic success, gain valuable self esteem, and receive a diploma from their home high school.  By completing their work in a learning environment that relies on goal setting and self-confidence, students at DLC learn to rely on themselves while being equipped with the tools to overcome personal odds.  While working in a smaller classroom setting, students complete courses in a guided amount of time.  Our Alternative Education Program utilizes an online learning environment for regular course credit as well as credit recovery through Edgenuity.  This schedule allows the teachers and students at DLC to develop a trusting relationship while assisting students to achieve academic success. The teachers provide a positive educational environment and teach the student the life skills of setting and achieving goals.  The Dayton Learning Center’s High School Alternative Education Program is a powerful resource for RCPS in helping to reduce the dropout rate by reaching those students who struggle in the regular classroom setting.
